Teams of wannabe racers have until Friday Feb. 8 to submit applications for this year’s Southern Ontario Amazing Race (SOAR) fundraiser.
The event, which supports the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington, will take place from June 7 to 9, marking its 10th anniversary this year. In honour of the milestone, organizers have set a fundraising goal of $100,000, a news release said.
Modelled after the popular TV series, the event sees pairs of racers competing in two days of physical and mental challenges as they navigate their way through towns of southern Ontario. Funds are raised through pledges collected by the teams.
This year, teams will be competing for a grand prize of $5,000, sponsored by Balnar Management Inc.
In selecting the limited number of teams to take part in the event, the SOAR directors will be looking for teams that show enthusiasm and a passion for helping the less fortunate, the release said.
Video applications, websites or other distinctive ways of showing spirit will go a long way toward getting a team into this year’s race, it said.
