Singing, skating and Santa Claus will be the centrepieces of this year’s Winter Lights & Music event on Friday night, kicking off the Christmas season in downtown Guelph.
The event begins at 6:30 p.m. in St. George’s Square with members of First Light Theatre singing festive songs as Downtown Guelph Business Association staff hand out candles and Capistrano Caffe serves hot chocolate.
Santa will then team up with local MP Frank Valeriote to light the Christmas tree.
Those in attendance will then be invited to join the candlelight walk to Market Square.
There, illuminated by the seasonal lights of city hall, the Guelph Community Singers will perform, while members of the University of Guelph varsity skating team demonstrate their skills on the recently opened outdoor rink, a news release said.
Following the performance, the public will be invited to join them for a skate, so people are reminded to bring their skates.
This is the 20th year for the Winter Lights & Music event, which is presented in partnership with the City of Guelph and the Downtown Guelph Business Association.
