In the history of the Guelph Police Service, only three members have died while serving their community. They are Const. W. Eric MacAulay in 1964, Const. William M. Holloway in 1922 and Const. Jennifer Kovach in 2013. MacAulay, whose funeral procession is shown parading through St. George’s Square in the above photo, was the only one of the three who was off duty when he was killed. He had come to the aid of a fellow officer who was trying to arrest a driver, and he was injured when the suspect drove off. He died of his injuries the following day.
