Shari McLaren (left) and Kathy Lewis attach shimmering red bows to the wreaths that will adorn veterans’ graves at Woodlawn Memorial Park. The women, along with fellow volunteer Cindy Taylor, spent hours cutting ribbon and making 250 bows for the cemetery’s veterans recognition program. The program, inspired by Wreaths Acrosss America, will see the 180 veterans’ graves in the cemetery’s two veterans areas adorned with the winter wreaths. As well, around 40 people purchased wreaths for veterans’ graves in other parts of the cemetery, and a few even ordered wreaths for veterans buried in other cemeteries, said Woodlawn’s cemetery counsellor Ceska Brennan. The Woodlawn decoration will coincide with a dedication service at the cemetery Saturday Dec. 1 at 11 a.m. in the veterans areas.
