Canoe race on weekend

Transition Guelph is gathering people together for a little friendly competition on the local waterways on Aug. 24.

The sustainability-focused organization is holding a fundraising canoe race and barbecue event, celebrating Transition Guelph and the community.

The Transition Guelph Canoe Race will feature three different races – a family race, a competitive canoeing race and a kayaking race in a time-trial style, a news release said. There will be prizes for the top three times in each category.

The event, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. by the covered bridge in York Road Park, will also include kids’ activities.

There is a minimum per-team pledge required to take part in the races. To register, visit or email
