Caring for Carly

Abigail Soucie, 3, sits as Maggie Weir (out of frame) puts a purple streak in her hair during the final Streak for Cancer event, called Courage for Carly, which was held in front of the Shoppers Drug Mart on Clair Road. Carly Hillis, 14, lost her life in May due to a very rare form of bone cancer called Ewing’s Sarcoma. Saturday’s fundraiser raised $3,000, and Streak for Cancer founder Tricia Gray said this surpassed the total goal of raising $50,000 for a dozen Canadian cancer charities. “Guelph is such a giving community,” said Gray. Kharisma Hair Design in Stone Road Mall will still offer hair streaks for people interested in donating to the cause until the end of October.
