Centennial students picked for program

Four Guelph high school students, all from Centennial Collegiate, have been picked to spend July attending a special science, technology, engineering and math program.

Grade 11 student Justin Robison and Grade 10 students Devanshi Shukla, Andrew Xu and Jack Zhu are among 620 youths picked from more than 1,200 applicants across Canada for the 34th year of the four-week SHAD program, a news release said.

“The life-changing, life-directing experience will take students on a four-week journey designed to push their intellectual, creative and leadership skills to the next level,” it said.

Those selected for the program have top marks and a strong community focus and come from diverse backgrounds, the release said. A financial awards program helps successful candidates with demonstrated financial need.

The SHAD program takes place at 12 host universities across Canada, and the four Centennial students are all going to different campuses.

Justin Robison is attending the program at the University of New Brunswick, Devanshi Shukla at Carleton University, Andrew Xu at the University of British Columbia and Jack Zhu at McMaster University.
