A changing of the guard is soon to take place at Hopewell Children’s Homes, when founder and current executive director John Oosterhuis retires on Feb. 5.
The developmental service organization has announced that Hopewell general manager Kim McDonald will be assuming the executive director role upon Oosterhuis’s retirement.
“Kim was chosen for her leadership skills, familiarity with the ever-evolving developmental services sector in Ontario, her deep affinity with the culture of Hopewell and her dedication to those we serve,” said Hopewell board chair Mark Woolnough in a news release.
“Speaking for the board, we are proud of the work done since 1983 and we believe that our best days are still to come,” he said.
Founded in 1983 to provide specialized 24-hour care to children with physical and developmental disabilities, Hopewell currently serves 10 children and 12 adults in Ariss and operates recreational and respite services in Guelph, serving more than 200 families, the release said.
“John’s vision and leadership were instrumental in making this happen,” said Woolnough in the release. “We wish him all the best in retirement.”
