Two women were charged with being impaired and in the care and control of a vehicle in two separate incidents of falling asleep at the wheel on Friday.
In the first incident, around 2:45 p.m., Wellington County OPP were called to Highway 7 east of Guelph, where a woman was slumped over the wheel of her Ford Escape. They found the car, with a hotdog stand in tow, stopped on the north side of the road just west of County Road 29, a news release said.
She was cleared medically by paramedics, but police spoke to the driver and determined she had been drinking.
The 57-year-old Guelph woman was charged with being impaired behind the wheel and refusing to provide a breath sample.
In the second incident, a woman fell asleep at a traffic light on the Hanlon Expressway.
A concerned citizen called police at 7:30 p.m. to report a woman slumped over the wheel of her vehicle as it sat stopped in a live lane of the highway at Willow Road, a news release said.
Police arrived and found the driver fast asleep. Upon speaking with the driver, police discovered she had been drinking, it said.
The 31-year-old Kitchener woman was charged with driving with a blood alcohol over the legal limit and being impaired behind the wheel.
