Christmas tree pickup starts Jan. 9

The city will start curbside collection of old Christmas trees Monday Jan. 9.
Residents are asked to leave their old trees within one foot of the curb, but not on the road. Only trees that are visible, not buried in snow, and safe to access will be collected, said a city notice.
People are also reminded to remove ornaments, lights, tinsel, nails and ropes, as trees will be mulched.
Winter control activities, such as deicing and snow removal, will be given priority over tree collection, so people are asked to be patient if inclement weather occurs, the notice said.
Trees can also be brought to the Waste Resource Innovation Centre, 110 Dunlop Dr., free of charge.
