The City of Guelph and three local residents will be honoured for their contributions to heritage conservation at an awards ceremony at Queen’s Park.
“The outstanding contributions these award recipients have made to conserve their local heritage and enrich their communities will resonate for generations to come,” Lt- Gov.  David C. Onley said in a news release.
Onley will present the 2012 Lieutenant Governor’s Ontario Heritage Awards to 10 Lifetime Achievement recipients on Friday Feb. 22, including Guelph’s Terry Crowley, Shirley Perrior and Susan Ratcliffe. Guelph is one of two communities that will get Community Leadership Awards for exemplary leadership in heritage conservation, the release said.
“I am thrilled that our city has received this wonderful award and that three residents from Guelph are also being honoured,” said Mayor Karen Farbridge in the release. “ This reflects how our community values protecting its heritage and features that make Guelph unique.”
All three local recipients were nominated by the City of Guelph.
Crowley has volunteered for the city and for the Guelph Arts Council since the 1980s as part of its Walking Tour program. He has been editor of the Ontario Heritage journal and is active in the Guelph Historical Society.
Perrior is also a core member of Guelph’s Walking Tour program. Since 1987, she has led tours and has produced one of the program’s tour books. She has also volunteered with the Guelph Arts Council and has taken part in Guelph’s Doors Open program.
Ratcliffe, another longtime volunteer with the Walking Tour program, was president and a founding board member of the local branch of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario. She is a speaker on local history, a volunteer with Doors Open, and a founder of Guelph’s Jane’s Walk.
