Distress Centre offers spring training

The Community Torchlight Distress Centre, a volunteer-driven agency that supports people dealing with a range of life issues, is currently taking applications for its spring training session.
People interested in learning active listening skills and how to engage in solution-directed conversations are invited to apply, a news release said.
The Distress Centre has its headquarters in Guelph, and it also operates its TeleCheck program out of Orangeville, doing daily check-in calls to people 55 and up living independently in their community.
Volunteers manage just under 50,000 inbound and outbound calls each year, working to enhance services and increase the number of people it supports on a 24/7 basis, the release said.
For information about the spring volunteer training, including training dates and how to apply, visit or call 226-979-6103.
