Driven to Succeed

A good crowd of around 50 people turned out Saturday afternoon at The Bookshelf to hear readings from Driven to Succeed, a recently released book on the life of Frank Hasenfratz and the founding of Linamar.
The book’s co-authors, Susan Papp and Rod McQueen, spoke briefly about the work before before each read an excerpt from the sections they had written. An informal interview with Hasenfratz, the book’s main character, and a book signing followed.
“The book is a page-turner,” Papp told the audience, noting that her job as author was to find the drama in her subject’s life and mine it.
The story, which begins with Hasenfratz’s life in his native Hungary, includes moments of tragedy, she said.
One of the questions that struck her as she was working on the book was “How do you go beyond the tragic events in your life and turn them around to be positive?” she said.
As if to answer this question, Hasenfratz later offered the audience his life philosphy.
“When bad things happen to you, look for the sunshine. There is sunshine for sure. That’s my philosophy of life,” he said.
