Event celebrates pillar of Guelph arts community

The life of a man described as having been a pillar of the arts community in and around Guelph for many years will be celebrated at the River Run Centre on Sunday Oct. 28.
The 2-5 p.m. event in Co-operators Hall will honour Paul Ord, who died Oct. 4.
Ord was a dedicated teacher and mentor and a technical director in the theatre studies program at the University of Guelph since 1980, and at Queen’s University for two years before that, a news release said.
“He was for many years the technical director for the Guelph Spring Festival and stage manager/backline for the Guelph Jazz Festival,” the release said.
He was “a tireless volunteer,” it said, and his contributions to the arts community included work for the Hillside Festival, the Festival of Friends in Hamilton, relief benefit concerts, the annual haunted house held in the past by Guelph Firefighters, Internet and computer training for Wellington Freespace, and many other contributions.
“The stage lights were dimmed on Oct. 4, 2012, but his passion, integrity and love of life will continue to shine in all who knew him,” said the release.
Everyone is invited to join Ord’s family and friends to celebrate his life.
