Event launch takes a look at practice of Muslim veiling

Canadian Council of Muslim Women executive director Alia Hogben will speak Feb. 16 at a launch event for a study on the practice of Muslim veiling.
The council’s study, “Women in Niqab Speak: A Study of the Niqab in Canada,” is the first study to give voices to Muslim women in Canada who wear the niqab, a news release said.
The results are based on 129 responses to a survey, focus groups and personal interviews with women who wear the niqab, a head and face covering worn by some Muslim women.
The study, funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, was conducted by Concordia University associate professor of religion and Islam Lynda Clarke.
The launch event will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at 286 Water St.
