Folk band playing church gig

A folk band that includes a Guelph native now living in Whitehorse has a concert at a local church on Friday Jan. 11.

Katie Avery, who was involved in several musical, dance and theatre endeavours while growing up in Guelph, is part of a three-women band called Beneath the Ice, a news release said.

The band, whose other two members live in Toronto, will perform at St. David and St. Patrick Anglican Church at 7:30. p.m.

There’s a suggested donation for admission, and tickets can be reserved by calling 519-763-2494.

Avery, who studied violin at the University of Toronto, is currently teaching violin in the Yukon capital city as director of her own studio. She has returned to Guelph for the winter break to perform with a number of different bands, the release said.
