Friends of Guelph Public Library book sale has a home

After five months, the search for a site for the Friends of the Guelph Public Library’s Giant Book Sale has ended and the fundraiser will go on as planned this fall.
“We are delighted. Planning is well underway, and things will start to happen soon,” said Friends chair Virginia Gillham in an email.
The sale, which raises money to support a new main library branch, will take place this fall from Oct. 17 to 19 in the former White Rose Nursery building on Edinburgh Road, near Willow Road.
For the past few years, the fundraiser and all the advanced sorting and preparation took place at the former FastForms building on Massey and Imperial Road, but when that building was sold, the Friends were forced to look for a new home.
The building they will now be using was not available when the search for a site began in February, but circumstances have since changed.
The property, which belongs to the Wellington Catholic District School Board, was up for sale. The board has now sold it, but the new owners will not take possession until late 2014 or early 2015, said Gillham.
In the meantime, the board is letting the Friends use the site for their sale.
The group will be releasing further details about the sale and arrangements for book donations soon. For updates, visit friendsguelphlibrary.ca.
