The warehouse at the Feed The Children Canada headquarters in Guelph was bustling with activity as a group of paramedics and doctors prepared to board a bus to Montreal, where they would catch a Canadian International Development Agency flight to Haiti. FTC was granted special permission to send the group to the earthquake-ravaged country, due to the valuable medical skills of its 16 members.Here, paramedic Olena Lytosh repacks her luggage to ensure the essentials arrive with her.

Cst. Rebecca Danes and Cst. Kevin McCord are two of 10 Guelph police officers heading to Vancouver to work as part of the security unit for the Winter Olympics. McCord, wearing the police-issued fur hat officers wear in very cold weather, said he’ll bring the hat with him for when he’s working at BC Place. It’s where opening and closing Olympic ceremonies and medal ceremonies will be held.

Bernie Austin takes a nap on the couch as competitors hold their brooms and mingle in the background at the 77th Tarlton-Sleeman Memorial Masters Bonspiel Tuesday at the Guelph Curling Club. Austin, who threw the ceremonial first rock at the recent Swiss Chalet National at the Sleeman Centre, was getting in some Zs prior to his Guelph Curling Club team’s game in the Tarlton Trophy finals. The locals, skipped by Bruce Folkard, won the Tarlton Trophy by beating the Burlington rink skipped by Doug Renshaw 8-6.
