Guelph went Global on Oct. 22 when Global News set up shop at the University of Guelph for its 6:30 p.m. live broadcast of Global National.
“I like to get out of the studio as much as possible, especially after years as a reporter. So we’re taking the newscast on the road,” Global National anchor Dawna Friesen said in a news release.
“As one of Canada’s most livable cities, Guelph is a perfect location, and the University of Guelph, with its rich history and vital role in the city, is a perfect backdrop for us,” she said.
The newscast aired from on Winegard Walk, with Johnston Hall providing the backdrop. Production crews were on campus Monday morning to set up for the 6:30 p.m. Ontario show, as well as the 5:30 p.m. Atlantic show.
The newscast was to feature stories highlighting U of G research, including one on the U of G-designed alpha particle X-ray spectrometer, which was mounted on a rover that landed on Mars, the release said.
