GRCA photo contest includes pre-1975 photographs

Grand River Conservation Authority is hoping to see some old-time photos among the submissions to this year’s photo contest.
The conservation authority will launch its second annual photo contest on Jan. 6, and the public will have until Oct. 31, 2014, to snap and submit entries.
This year, the contest will have a historic twist in recognition of the 20th anniversary of the designation of the Grand River and its tributaries as Canadian Heritage Rivers, a news release said.
“Historic Photos” – taken before 1975 – is one of three categories for contest submissions. These old photos might include pics of water-related recreational activities, or of river-related cultural and historical features such as bridges, dams, mills, homesteads, town and city sites, and transportation, the release said.
The contest’s two other categories are “Riverscapes” – for landscape photos highlighting natural or cultural features along the waterways of the watershed – and “Recreation” – for pictures of people enjoying conservation authority parks, natural areas, trails and rivers.
The contest will feature more than $2,000 in prizes, including monthly giveaways for the best photos. There will be an overall grand prize of a $500 gift certificate at a local camera retailer.
