The Guelph Lake Nature Centre is inviting community members to an open house where they can learn all about what is in store for the centre.
The Oct. 14 reunion and open house will run from noon to 4 p.m. and will include lots of free activities, along with a chance to learn about the plans for the new nature centre that will be built on the site, a news release said.
Over the past year, nearly $360,000 has been raised toward a new centre that will be purpose-built and will replace the current centre – a 33-year-old converted house that is no longer big or durable enough to meet the needs of 22,000 visitors and students each year, the release said.
A new centre is expected to cost about $3 million, and the Grand River Conservation Foundation has begun fundraising in the community to make it happen.
People can check out the progress so far at the open house.
Past and present students, their families and the community are also invited to take part in an afternoon of learning about nature. Activities, led by experienced nature interpreters, will include visiting with creature teachers, geo-dashing, guided nature hikes and a predator-prey game.
People interested in donating to the conservation foundation are asked to contact Logan Walsh at lwalsh@grandriver.ca or 519-621-2763, ext. 2371. More information is available at www.grcf.ca/GLNC.
