The Guelph Gryphons take on the Toronto Varsity Blues in a sold-out football game Saturday that will be a highlight of Homecoming 2012 at the University of Guelph this weekend.
The university will provide special viewing areas with large-screen TVs in the Gryphon arena, as well as in the Brass Taps and the Grad Lounge in the University Centre, for the 1 p.m. Sept. 22 game, a news release said.
Student housing will also provide game-viewing opportunities, and the football game will be broadcast on The Score Television Network.
All game tickets and alumni packages were taken within an hour of going on sale for the game in the newly renovated Alumni Stadium, with its new synthetic field and eight-lane, international-calibre track and field facility, the release said.
Race back on campus track
Human kinetics students at the University of Guelph are reviving the HK5K as part of Homecoming celebrations on Sept. 22.
The run is being reintroduced after having been discontinued for a few years, to provide a chance for past graduates of the human kinetics program, current undergraduates and community members to connect, interact and network on the beautiful trails of the Arboretum, a news release said.
At the same time, they will be taking part in some friendly competition, it said.
The five-kilometre race will begin at the Arboretum’s R.J. Hilton Centre, with race-day registration starting at 9:30 a.m.
Kids under 12 can participate for free, and there is a discount for community members who register as a group of four.
More information and a pre-registration link can be found online at hk5krun.tumblr.com.
