Huge win for Guelph musician Sarah Felker

Local singer-songwriter Sarah Felker is the top winner of the RBC Emerging Artist Music Mentorship Prize.
As the grand prize winner, the 21-year-old will receive $25,000, studio time and mentorship from members of The Tragically Hip and Triumph, and she’ll perform at the Canada’s Walk of Fame Festival Emerging Artists Showcase, taking place at Toronto’s David Pecaut Square from Sept 22 to 24.
The prize was announced Tuesday by Canada’s Walk of Fame in partnership with national premier partner RBC. It is part of Canada’s Walk of Fame Emerging Artists Programs. Felker was the top among seven prize winners selected for the initiative, which aims to support the next generation of gifted Canadian musicians, a news release said.
“We received hundreds of submissions from gifted musicians from coast to coast, reflecting the remarkably high calibre of emerging talent in Canada,” Canada’s Walk of Fame chief executive officer Melanie Hurley said in the release. Felker, a blues and pop-style singer/songwriter, is currently working on her first CD. In 2010, she was awarded the Damn Good award for excellence in songwriting from the Songstudio Songwriter’s Workshop in Toronto.
RBC Emerging Artist Music Mentorship Prize winners were selected by a panel of judges, including members of Canada’s Walk of Fame senior management team and board of directors, as well as prominent music industry executives and artists. To view video winners, visit:
