Local artists will not only put their work on display, they’ll put themselves on display this Saturday night in the second annual Brush Off fundraiser at Old Quebec Street in support of art therapy.
The 7 p.m. event features 24 artists, painting live in an elimination-style competition. At the end, they will have produced a total of 46 original works of art, all of which will be up for auction.
Last year, the first event raised $22,000 for Hospice Wellington’s art therapy program, said Brush Off committee chair Blaire Rennie.
“It’s an amazing program,” she said, noting that artists are happy to donate their time, because they know first-hand the value of art therapy. “I have never met an artist that doesn’t use therapy in their own work. Artists get art therapy, because they’re doing it.”
This year’s event will feature last year’s first, second and third-place artists – Ryan Price, Meredith Blackmore and Michael Byers, respectively – as well as many more local artists, and the night will include live entertainment.
People can support the cause by sponsoring an artist’s easel, buying a ticket and attending the event, or purchasing a piece of artwork.
Tickets can be purchased at Wyndham Art Supplies and at all local Scotiabank locations.
