More accessbile parking at parking garage

The city has added accessible parking spaces to a downtown parking garage to ensure adequate parking during elevator repairs.
An elevator in the city’s West Parkade needs a major retrofit to ensure its safe operation. The elevator is to be retrofitted, with the work to be complete by June, a news release said.
In the meantime, the city is adding 12 temporary accessible parking spaces to the existing 10 available to West Parkade customers, it said.
The 26-year-old elevator has been regularly repaired and maintain, but the equipment has now reached its life expectancy and is due for a major retrofit, it said.
The elevator’s inner workings, including the engine and hydraulic mechanism, will be replaced.
Directional signs to other elevators in the parkade have been provided, and parkade staff are available to support customers, the release said. The parkade provides parking for visitors to Old Quebec Street, the River Run Centre, the Sleeman Centre and other destinations.
