Singers and paddlers, some dressed in circa 1917 costumes, emerge from under the Gordon Street bridge at the start of the Friday evening pageant near The Boathouse. Joining in on shore were singers James Gordon and Shannon Kingsbury.

Organizers buoyed by Guelph’s first Two Rivers Festival

The first Two Rivers Festival, which saw 24 river-related events staged in Guelph from June 10-17, is being described as a big success.
“Everything was positive, every event worked and even the weather was fantastic,” said Stan Kozak, one of the main driving forces behind a festival that he hopes will be repeated next year.
With $2,500 in seed funding from the local Gosling Foundation in hand, a group of organizers including Kozak put out a call earlier this year for groups wanting to be part of a festival devoted to celebrating the city’s two rivers.
“That model worked really well,” Kozak said in an interview Monday. After doing the initial prompting, the festival’s organizing committee concentrated on coordination and marketing.
