Organizers seek help for special holiday meal

The local restaurant the Happy Traveller is preparing to serve up a special holiday meal this Christmas Eve, but volunteers from the community are needed to pull it off.
The restaurant, located at 40 Carden St., will be providing a free, formal holiday meal to 80 people who would not otherwise have access to such a meal during the holidays, a news release said.
Three turkeys have been donated by the Guelph Rotary Club, and donations are being accepted for the rest of the food and supplies.
The restaurant is working with the Guelph Food Bank and Guelph Hope House to find guests who would benefit most from the event, the release said.
But on top of collecting donations and finding diners, the restaurant will need volunteers who can help with everything from picking up supplies, seating, serving and cooking to clearing tables and washing dishes.
The plan is to serve the meal, rather than doing a buffet, so as not to resemble a food bank, the release said.
For anyone interested in volunteering or donating, a meeting will be held tonight (Dec. 18) at the restaurant. People can also contact Londa at 519-265-0844 or 519-803-2871.
