Poverty group talks on living wage

The Guelph and Wellington Task Force for Poverty Elimination is set to host its second in a series of community conversations on the living wage.
The Living Wage & Housing event, taking place April 16 at 6:30 p.m., will examine housing as one of the main components of the living wage calculation, and will discuss how to change policy and advocate for improved access to affordable housing for low-income people in the community, a news release said.
The conversation will include the lead consultant of the County of Wellington’s 10-year housing and homelessness plan, as well as a speaker from the task force’s Advance Your Voice speakers’ bureau, who will share her struggles trying to access affordable housing.
Other topics include the economics of rental housing, barriers to developing affordable housing, the Ontario Housing Benefit and local advocacy efforts. There will be plenty of chances for questions and conversation with the panelists, the release said.
The event takes place in the Meridian Room of the Ontario Early Years Centre on the second floor of Stone Road Mall. People are asked to register for the event at ptflivingwageandhousing.eventbrite.ca.
