Teams of racers take off running from Goldie Mill Park to begin the Southern Ontario Amazing Race or Soar, a fundraiser for the Children's Foundation of Guelph and Wellington.

Ready to SOAR

Teams of racers taking part in this year’s Southern Ontario Amazing Race or SOAR collectively raised $78,483 for the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington.

The two-day event, which started bright and early on June 7, brought 21 two-person teams out to compete in mental and physical challenges in a race across southern Ontario. It is modelled after the Amazing Race television show, except that the racers not only compete for great prizes, but also do lots of fundraising.

This year, the top fundraising team of Jake Drexler and Paul Harrington was also the first team to finish the race. Their efforts earned them a $3,000 travel voucher, but perhaps more significant, they earned bragging rights as the top fundraisers. The pair, who are from Elora and Rockwood respectively, raised more than $10,000 to help kids in Guelph and Wellington County.
