Guelph Youth Music Centre will have a more brightly lit Recital Hall stage and will also save on its electrical bills as a result of a conversion project done this weekend.
Volunteers using a lift machine to rise 30 feet in the air replaced incandescent floodlights above the Recital Hall stage area with new fixtures using high-efficiency LED (light-emitting diodes) lights, a news release said.
“The Recital Hall is a popular venue for concerts, plays and rehearsals, and the 12-year-old lighting has been unreliable and not always bright enough,” the release said.
“Because the lighting is two floors above the floor, maintenance is quite a chore and not done as often as desirable,” it said. “It may be several weeks or even months before blown bulbs are replaced, during which time the light on the stage gets dimmer.”
The switch, which will reduce maintenance and save electricity, was partly funded by a provincial “Save on Energy” fund administered locally by Guelph Hydro, it said.
