Snow plow safety campaign launched

Slow down when you see a snow plow, and never try to pass one. That’s one safety tip in a provincewide  campaign that came to Guelph on Friday.
The call to action came from the Ontario Road Builders’ Association, whose second annual campaign to help prevent unsafe driving around snow plows is backed by the provincial Ministry of Transportation.
“To help prevent collisions and injuries, we are asking all drivers to show caution on the road when they see a snow plow’s flashing blue light, and let the plow lead the way,” Geoff Wilkinson, the association’s executive director, said in a news release.
“Each winter the city works diligently to ensure our roads are clear and safe,” said Rodney Keller, the city’s general manager of public works. “We ask that drivers in Guelph do their part by sharing the road and being cautious around snow plows.”
These are the association’s snow plow safety tips:
• Be patient; keep a safe distance behind working  plows
• Slow down; never pass a snow plow
• When approaching a plow from the opposite direction, stay right, allowing space for it to operate safely.
