Tag team forms last drink initiative

The Wellington County OPP are teaming up with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario to fight drunk driving.
Wellington County is one of 12 communities selected to take part in the “Last Drink Program,” designed to educate and assist licensed establishments in their compliance with the Liquor Licence Act, a news release said.
Under the program, police would identify the location where an impaired driver drank their last alcoholic beverage.
If the location is a licensed establishment, the information would be forwarded to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission, so its investigators can follow up.
“The goal of the program is to reduce the number of people charged with a drinking and driving offence by influencing licensed premise operators and alcohol servers to take responsibility for their serving practices,” the release said.
Drinking and driving numbers increased this year across the province, with Wellington Country seeing similar results, it said.
