Talk on Vimny Ridge

To commemorate the Battle of Vimy Ridge, the Guelph Civic Museum will host a talk by Canadian Military History managing editor Michael Bechthold on April 9 at 2 p.m.
Bechthold, who teaches military history at Wilfrid Laurier University and has published many articles on the First and Second World Wars, will speak on “Canada and Vimy Ridge – An Iconic Battle.”
The battle was the first time during the First World War that all four Canadian divisions came together to fight as one corps, a news release said.
Canada’s objective during the battle was to take control of the German-held northern escarpment – an objective that was achieved after four days of battle and more than 10,000 casualties, it said.
The Vimy Ridge Day talk is included with regular admission to the museum, which is located at 52 Norfolk St. For more information, call 519-836-122
