Appropriately hatted for the occasion, Karen Ferrie (left) and Vera Briggs, guests of Pearl Robinson’s backyard fundraiser for Hospice Wellington, raise their cups in recognition of their hostess. Robinson was celebrating her 60 years living in Canada and wanted to give back to the community she has called home since she left the U.K. all those years ago. The formal tea party was Robinson’s own “Diamond Jubilee” celebration and featured musical entertainment, homemade food and even a town crier to announce the hostess and her special guests. Donations to Hospice were matched by a local branch of Scotia Bank, and a total of $13,000 was raised. “I was delighted and so thankful to all who attended and helped out with the event,” said Robinson.
