Hundreds of University of Guelph students will be pitching in at organizations around town this Saturday as part of a massive one-day volunteer initiative.
Students participating in the university’s Project Serve day are expected to contribute about 1,200 hours of volunteer service to more than 30 local organizations, a news release said.
Project Serve began in 1997 as a way of introducing students to community involvement and voluntarism, it said. The program is now an annual event.
Working in teams of five to 15, students will spend a half-day doing jobs ranging from environmental cleanup to sorting food at non-profit agencies, the release said.
Some of this year’s participating agencies include the Guelph Enabling Garden, the Guelph Youth Music Centre, Wyndham House, St. Joseph’s Health Centre and Onward Willow.
