University of Guelph popular pick

It seems that more students than ever want to come to the University of Guelph.
According to figures released this week by the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre, the number of students who named the University of Guelph or the University of Guelph-Humber as their “first choice” school increased by 7.2 and 14.6 per cent respectively, a news release said.
Those increases are significantly greater than the system average of 2.4 per cent, it said.
“We are delighted that Guelph continues to be the university of choice among qualified and motivated students,” said university president Alastair Summerlee, in the release.
“As always, it’s a testament to the strength of our reputation, the diversity of our programs, caring residential environment, and quality of our faculty, staff and alumni.”
Total applications to U of G are up 5.7 per cent, and applications to Guelph-Humber are up 12 per cent, the release said.
The figures are meant to help universities with their enrolment planning, it said.
They show that a total of 25,594 applications were made to U of G, and 5,181 were made to Guelph-Humber. Summerlee noted that based on past trends, U of G is on track to meet its enrolment targets, the release said.
