The Guelph Symphony Orchestra will again offer a New Year’s Day treat when it presents a concert version of the Johann Strauss operetta Die Fledermaus on the afternoon of New Year’s Day.
Joining the GSO for the show at the River Run Centre will be several members of the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio.
Past graduates of this Toronto-based ensemble include such well-known names as soprano Isabel Bayrakdarian, tenor Ben Hepner, baritone James Westman and mezzo Allyson McHardy, a news release said.
The 3 p.m. Jan. 1 concert event will also feature such favourites of the holiday season as Auld Lang Syne and Brindisi. Now in its 12th season, the GSO has presented concerts with a Viennese element each New Year’s Day afternoon for the past few years. Die Fledermaus is known as Vienna’s favourite operetta, the release said.
