Police have arrested a second man but are still looking for two witnesses to a Labour Day assault that left a man unconscious in hospital.
The physical altercation happened on Carden and Wyndham streets around 12:20 a.m. A 27-year-old Guelph resident sustained serious head injuries in the incident and was taken to Hamilton General Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery, a news release said.
The 27-year-old Guelph victim was in critical condition for 11 days but has now been removed from the Critical Care Unit and is listed in stable condition, police reported Monday. He is expected to remain in hospital for a significant period.
On Sept. 3, police charged a 26-year-old Guelph man with aggravated assault.
On Sept. 13, they arrested a second suspect. A 32-year-old Guelph man has also been charged with aggravated assault.
In the meantime, investigators are still looking to speak with two male witnesses who were in the area at the time of the incident. They are witnesses only, and they may have critical information that could assist the police investigation, the release said.
