Big jump in unclaimed cats

The Guelph Humane Society is lowering its cat adoption fees temporarily to try to deal with a recent influx of unclaimed cats.
The organization started its annual “Cat Days of Summer” event early this year in an effort to reduce the number of cats at the shelter, a news release said.
The discount adoption event was initially planned for the end of August, but instead began on July 30 because of a higher than normal volume of cats, it said.
The event will run until Aug. 16.
Adoption fees include spaying or neutering, vaccinations, de-worming, flea treatment and microchip.
