Brush, branch cleanup begins

City hall has started the big job of cleaning up branches that fell from city-owned trees during December’s ice storm, and it expects to finish the work by mid-May.
Enough snow had melted on the ground by Monday to allow the start of this brush cleanup, which involves the removal and chipping of the branches, a news release said. The city’s forestry crews will work through nine zones in the city.
The city has two phases left in its cleanup from the ice storm. The phase of removing marked trees, clearing boulevards and parks, and pruning city trees is expected to wrap up by late this year. The final phase of grinding up remaining tree stumps and planting replacement trees is expected to happen in the spring of 2015 at the earliest, the release said.
