Car-bike collisions on rise

The number of collisions between cars and cyclists went up significantly in 2013 from the previous year.
According to some year-end statistics released by Guelph Police, there were 40 such collisions in 2013, compared with 31 in 2012. Meanwhile, the number collisions between pedestrians and motor vehicles stayed the same, at 22 in both years.
The numbers are small when compared with the 2,004 collisions of all types reported to police in 2013.
Other stats released include the number of thefts from cars – down to 404 from 616 in 2012 – and the number of break-ins – down to 372 from 424.
Police also released the number of drinking and driving arrests – 128 last year, and 176 in 2012.
