City hall’s $100k earners up

The number of city employees on the Sunshine List – pulling in more than $100,000 – was up last year.
In a report to city council, the city’s corporate and human resources department noted there were 16 more employees earning in excess of $100,000 in 2012 than in 2011, bringing the total to 109 of the 2,172 current full and part-time staff.
Of the 16, eight were members of CUPE 241, the union representing Guelph Outside Municipal Employees, whose increases were the result of payouts from collective bargaining in 2012, the report said.
The other eight were from the non-union and management group. The increases were mostly due to adjustments required as a result of job evaluation adjustments required under the Pay Equity Act, it said.
The numbers only include City of Guelph employees and library employees, but not the Guelph Police Service, which reports separately to the province.
Under the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, organizations that receive a significant amount of public funding from the province are required to disclose details annually.
The city submitted its 2012 information before the March 7 deadline, and the information will appear on the provincial website within the first two weeks of April.
