Family cat hurt in fire

A family cat was the only one injured in a fire Monday afternoon at a townhouse on Marksam Road.

When fire crews arrived at the home around 2:15 p.m., they found smoke coming from the front door as well as the second-storey eaves, a news release said.

The fire was located in the kitchen area and was quickly extinguished, it said.

No one was home at the time of the fire, but firefighters found a cat in the basement. The animal was revived on scene before being taken to the Guelph Humane Society for further observation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
