Two local community members are among the latest recipients of Diamond Jubilee medals in recognition of significant contributions to Ontario and Canada.
Local MPP Liz Sandals presented medals Tuesday to T.K. “Sandy” Warley and Ruth Tatham.
Warley is active in the Guelph Wellington Men’s Club and also in the University of Guelph Alumni Association, where he authored the constitution, a news release said. He is a retired director of the School of Agriculture Economics and Extension Education, and served for 13 years on the Ontario Agricultural College Alumni Association board of directors.
He also helped for the Cyberseniors group, was president of the Guelph Horticultural Society and director of the local chapter of the MS Society of Canada.
Tatham is a physician, community volunteer and philanthropist, the release said.
She was instrumental in the development of stroke protocol practised by emergency services, volunteered as medical adviser to the local chapter of Stroke Recovery Canada, and is a leader in raising awareness of strokes and providing support to survivors and caregivers, the release said.
“I am proud to have been given this opportunity to recognize Guelph’s outstanding citizens, T.K. (Sandy) Warley and Ruth Tatham,” said Sandals in the release. “Their spirit of contribution is fittingly recognized with this Diamond Jubilee medal, and we are lucky to have them in our community.”
