Local house fire brought under control quickly

A house fire on Chadwick Avenue brought fire crews from five stations out early on New Year’s Day.

When firefighters arrived just after 6 a.m., they found smoke and flames coming from the roof at the back of the home, which is located in the Howitt Park area.

The fire was mainly confined to the attic area and was quickly brought under control and extinguished, a news release said.

All occupants of the home had been evacuated before fire crews arrived, and there were no injuries to any of the occupants or firefighters, it said.

The Fire Prevention Office was called in to investigate the cause of the fire.
