A Guelph woman has been arrested after a hit-and-run collision that killed a cyclist on County Road 7 in Guelph-Eramosa Township.
The cyclist has been identified as Gordon Krofchick, 42, of Ariss. He and his badly damaged bike were spotted in the ditch on County Road 7, just south of County Road 51, around 7:30 a.m. Thursday by a passing driver, who notified police.
Police believe the collision happened between 10 and 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday Nov. 6, a news release said.
The road between County Road 51 and Highway 6 was closed for a period of time Thursday while police investigated. By afternoon, Wellington County OPP had determined they were looking for a silver or grey 2008 to 2011 Ford car with damage to the passenger side.
On Friday Nov. 8, they announced that a 55-year-old Guelph woman had been arrested as a result of the combined investigative efforts of the Wellington County OPP’s traffic management and crime units, officers from the highway safety division and the forensic identification unit.
The woman is charged with failing to remain at an accident scene. She is scheduled to appear in a Guelph court on Jan. 14, 2014.
Police are still looking for witnesses and are asking anyone that may have seen a cyclist in the area of Highway 6 and County Road 7 between 10 and 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday to call the OPP’s Fergus detachment at 1-888-310-1122, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-80-222-TIPS (8477).
