Ministry of Labour probes accident

The Ministry of Labour is investigating after a load of ceramic tiles crashed from a crane at a downtown construction site and landed on a van, trapping and injuring the man inside.
The extent of the man’s injuries is not known, but the 48-year-old Toronto man is listed in stable condition, a news release said.
The accident happened around 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17 on Douglas Street, where work has been moving forward on the reconstruction of the Gummer Building.
Investigation revealed that a load of ceramic tiles that were being hoisted by a cane above the man’s van slid off the load and fell four floors, crushing the roof of the van, the release said.
Firefighters had to cut the roof off the van to extricate the man from his vehicle. He was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.
The scene and the investigation were turned over to the Ministry of Labour.
