More traffic problems forecast for south end

Construction projects in the Gordon Street area are causing short-term complications for drivers and cyclists in the south end.
A project last week saw traffic lanes reduced for the installation of infrastructure for a condominium development at 1291 Gordon St.
Now the focus has shifted to Clair Road between Gordon Street and Gosling Gardens, at the Birds Landing subdivision. Clair Road is completely closed to all traffic this week at this location, starting Aug. 25, as the city works on the sanitary sewer and watermain there and installs traffic signals, a news release said. Construction at this location is expected to be finished by Aug. 29, weather permitting. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes.
Starting Sept. 2, though, construction will continue at the Birds Landing subdivision, this time on Gordon Street between Clair and Poppy Drive.
Northbound and southbound traffic will be maintained with one lane in each direction, while the watermain extension and connection and traffic signal updates are completed, the release said. Construction there is expected to be done by September 5, weather permitting.
“Bike lanes will be closed, but sidewalks will be open so people will have access to a safe crossing,” project manager Grant Ferguson said in the release.  “We understand how difficult it can be to get around and through construction zones, and we appreciate everyone’s patience while these projects are completed.”
