Parking is to be prohibited on a stretch of the west side of Janefield Avenue in what’s being described as a compromise solution to concerns of some local residents.
On-street parking will no longer be allowed on the west side of Janefield from 123 metres south of Mason Court to 207 metres south under a motion approved by council.
City staff recommended in April that no changes be made to parking on Janefield, but council’s operations, transit and emergency services committee told staff to take another look at alternatives. This led to the solution endorsed by the committee earlier this month, committee chair Coun. Ian Findlay told council last week.
On-street parking will no longer be allowed in front of 57-175 Janefield. “This compromise will address concerns about vehicles parking too close to driveways, improve sightlines at adjacent intersections and driveways, and improve access for solid waste services on collection days,” said a city staff report.
City staff will monitor parking on Janefield once new signs are installed at a cost of under $1,000, the report said.
