Police have charged a man with attempted abduction in connection with an incident that happened late last month in the Lyon Park area.
An eight-year-old girl had been walking through the park on Sept. 28 between 3:30 and 3:50 p.m. when a stranger in a yellow pickup truck started a conversation with her. The man, whose truck was parked on Boult Avenue, asked the girl for help finding his dog, a news release said.
The child left the area and reported it to police.
An investigative team was assembled and a suspect was identified, the release said.
On Oct. 4, a 36-year-old Guelph man was arrested at a trailer in West Montrose. He is charged with attempted abduction of a person under 14, attempted kidnapping and criminal harassment.
It is alleged that the man tried to coax the child into his vehicle, the release said.
The girl suffered no physical injuries, and there was no physical contact between the victim and the accused, it said.
Police are continuing the investigation, and members of the public with any information related to the investigation are asked to contact the Guelph Police Service’s Det. Sgt. Tina Ryan at 519-824-1212, ext. 329.
